Storm Monument in Starý Smokovec
The memorial has been standing in Starý Smokovec since 2005 and was opened to the public to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the devastating storm. It is intended to commemorate the storm of the evening of November 19, 2004, which reached speeds of up to 160 km per hour. In a length of 50 to 60 kilometers from Podbanské in Liptov to Tatranská Lomnica in Spiš, it uprooted 2.5 to 3 million cubic meters of wood mass over an area of twelve to thirteen thousand hectares, with a width of 2.5 to five kilometers. The entire memorial area is illuminated at night.
