A concrete seat is a different category of seating in public spaces than a bench. It has no backrest, is more compact and much more flexible in terms of placement. That is why in recent years it has become a popular choice of architects and urban planners who want to create a dynamic public space where people sit, meet and linger, but the space does not look like a waiting room. At KLOCOK, we have been manufacturing custom-made concrete seating for more than 30 years for cities, municipalities, developers and commercial site managers.

The key advantage of concrete seating over metal or plastic is its durability combined with freedom of form. Concrete can be cast into virtually any shape, from a simple block to organic, rounded forms that follow the lines of the surrounding paving or fountain. At the same time, a concrete seat, unlike metal, does not burn in summer or freeze in winter, and sitting on a concrete surface is more pleasant than on metal in extreme temperatures.

Shapes and variants of concrete seats

We most often produce concrete seats in square design, blocks of various heights and lengths, which can be combined into sets and systems. Such seats are a characteristic element of modern revitalizations of squares, where they replace traditional benches precisely because of their versatility, they can be arranged in a row, in a circle, in an L-shape or distributed freely across the area.

For parks and garden spaces, we produce concrete seats with organic shapes such as rounded edges, a slightly curved seating surface, or a combination with wood or stone. Such seating feels warmer and more natural than austere concrete block, but retains all the advantages of concrete as a material.

A special category are concrete seats with integrated LED lighting. The backlighting from the lower edge of the seat creates a subtle lighting effect at night and also increases safety in dark parts of the park or square. We produced this type of concrete seat in front of the Continetal company in Púchov, where concrete LED seats were part of a comprehensive solution for public areas in front of the building entrance.

Surface treatments and durability of concrete seats

The surface of a concrete seat must meet two seemingly contradictory requirements: it must be comfortable to sit on and at the same time resistant to intense loads and vandalism. At KLOCOK, we solve this by selecting surface treatments and the method of surface treatment directly during production.

Exposed concrete with a finely textured surface is the most common choice, it looks modern, is pleasant to the touch and does not reflect intense heat. The washed surface with exposed aggregate gives the seat a more natural look and is suitable for garden and park areas. For urban environments, we always recommend applying a transparent anti-graffiti coating, which will not change the appearance of the seat, but will make cleaning much easier in the event of vandalism.

Where can you find our concrete seating?

Concrete seats from KLOCOK can be found in the residential complexes Bory Bývanie and Skypark Bratislava, on revitalized squares in Lučenec and Poprad, at the Bory Mall shopping center and Bardejov, and in dozens of other projects. Each implementation was different, with different dimensions, different shapes, different surfaces, and different shades of concrete.
